Women Empowerment:

Women Empowerment: (Poorest Area Civil Society programme of Department For International Development, (DFID), UK): The power of Local Self-Governance that has been strengthening by 73rd Constitutional amendments. The new Biahr Panchayat Act 2006 in which the women have been provided 50% reservation in the Panchayat elections and also the opportunities to participate in the decision making. The elected women representatives (EWR’s) are required to identify the same and carryout developmental programs in their respective area. The role of women in making Panchayat Raj successful is of almost importance they may lead the society and bring change in themselves and in the society as well. They will have to household affairs.

Women are organized in Self Help Groups to encourage habits of savings, thrift and income generation. These women are provided vocational trainings on livelihood options such as food processing; tailoring, embroidery and linkages are created with Banks, DRDA, NABARD etc. Women are made aware of their rights and entitlements and the benefits of education, health, hygiene, nutrition and sanitation. Their wards are encouraged to go to the formal school system. The women of the community who were earlier used to be behind pardas are encouraged to and do participate in the Gram Sabha meetings. The elected women representatives of Panchayat are trained in leadership development to be able to discharge their responsibilities more effectively. Abhiyan also emphasized on functional literacy and plan to develop there fold women organization i.e. cluster and cooperative.  This program is supported by DFID, UK through Development Alternative, New Delhi.
Achievement: 87 women self Help Groups in existence, Bank Account opened, saving done at regular basis, meeting held regularly and women started discussion their problems and solutions, sending their wards to school and caring for their health and the health of children.  Participation of women in Gram Sabha in the villages of Kako and Hulasganj Blocks of Jehanabad district, skill of 400 women in cutting, tailoring food processing, animal husbandry enhanced.
