Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihood Creation:

Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihood creation in Patna and Jehanabad districts of Bihar: Most people in the area are dependant upon agriculture as a main source of livelihood.  This area is also prone to frequent droughts.  Training initiatives on rainwater harvesting, intercropping patterns, improved implements and seeds are provided to small and marginal farmers.  The use of chemical fertilizers is discouraged and the bio fertilizers and vermin composts are encouraged.  Traditional crops, typical to the area are being encouraged and demonstrated and traditional methods of irrigation s are again being encouraged.  The work is being undertaken for the renovation of the traditional irrigation channels in the villages and community tube wells have been dug for use by groups of farmers.

Achievement50000 people have been motivated for renovation of irrigational sources like Ahar, pyne etc, vermin composting, use of bio fertilizers, traditional seeds etc. They have also been motivated to minimize use of chemical fertilizers. BPL is supported for the jobs under NREGA for sustainable livelihood..
