Dalit Empowerment:

In the process of Dalit empowerment in Kako block of Jehanabad district, we are trying our best to ensure participation of Dalits in Local Self Governance i.e. Gram Sabha. Massive campaigns are being launched for creating due Panchayati Raj Awareness and motivation for Dalits participation in Gram Sabha. After the 2006 Panchayati Raj election PRIs already exist. Unfortunately because of ignorance and in absence of information there is very poor participation of Dalits in the Gram Sabha (Village meetings). They are also illiterate and even less paid their wages. We have conducted and will conduct District /Block level seminars, Padyatra, skill up gradation training, meeting with Dalits aimed at creating favorable environment, sensitization, awareness creation and mobilizing participation of Dalits in gram sabha. Their participation is gradually improving. District Programme is supported by Give India, Mumbai.
It may be appropriate to mention here that in almost all our intervention we are foucusing National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and Right to Information for ensuring sustenance of the livelihood and realization of their entitlements to the people below the line of poverty with special focus on to women and Dalits.
